I didn't know anything about the true story of this film, but it sounded interesting, and it had a very good cast, so I knew that I would check it out when it came to a theater near me. Even though many critics gave this film lackluster reviews, I thought that it was actually rather good.
The film did a really good job of building suspense. There was never really a moment that I found to be slow. The film had a lot of constant character and plot development, with some action sprinkled in. I liked that the filmmakers chose not to blow the action out of proportion, even though it is present. The main protagonists are likable, and while I could have used a bit more backstory, I thought that they were overall pretty well-developed. Supporting characters weren't the most well-developed, but they served their purpose.
The acting of the film was its strongest part. Cillian Murphy is absolutely phenomenal as the main protagonist. He is believable and shows realistic emotion throughout the film. Jamie Dornan really surprised me as the other main protagonist. While I hadn't seen him in anything else, I didn't expect much from him, and he ended up accenting Murphy well. Toby Jones is also as great as always in his supporting role.
So overall, I thought that "Anthropoid" was a well-done, suspenseful war thriller. Fans of the genre should definitely check it out.
