The real shortcoming of the film is its plot. It is a plot that feels like it has been done before. It follows almost every beat in the action movie book. The science in this film is a bit less ridiculous, but it is still inaccurate. Still, it is a gloriously fun time to watch.
The cast of the film is really good. Kevin Costner is great. He was really the biggest part of the film. Without him, the film would have been quite different. Gary Oldman is very good in his supporting role, as is Tommy Lee Jones, but he is a bit underused. Ryan Reynolds is also pretty good for the 10 minutes of screen time that he has in the movie. Gal Gadot, who provided the little bit of life that was present in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" was also good, but her accent is a bit random.
So overall, I was pretty pleased with "Criminal". Even though it is relatively standard genre fare, it is relatively fun genre fare and is worth a shot if you are in the mood for this type of movie.
