In honor of the release of "Finding Dory", I decided to re-watch the original film, which I haven't seen in a few years. Re-watching this film, I remembered why I loved it so much in the first place: it has a touching and funny story that is an absolute joy to watch.
Pixar films are extraordinarily good at being both hilarious and heartwarming, often at the same time, and this film is no exception. The film is consistently interesting, and there are no visible plot holes. There are also some extremely quotable moments in this film, such as "Just keep swimming!" and "Fish are friends, not food." Also, just as films aimed at kids should, the film has positive messages, including that of perseverance.
The characters in the film are extremely well-developed. I was able to care for the characters in the film by the first scene, which is a rare feat, but possible due to how well-written the scene is. My favorite character is Dory, which is part of why I am so excited to see the sequel. The casting of Ellen DeGeneres was great, as she provided some hilarious comedic relief at points when the film had the potential to become overly dark.
So overall, I really love "Finding Nemo", and I always have. It is enjoyable, well-written, and well-animated. If "Finding Dory" is half as good as the original, it will still be great, so I am really excited for it.
