I thought that this film looked great because I love Tom Hardy (with the exception his portrayal of Bane) and the story looked intriguing. I was disappointed when the wide expansion plans were cut, so I had to check it out the first that I could when it came out on digital.
The performances of the film truly are phenomenal. Tom Hardy does really well in both of his roles, especially the roles where both characters are communicating with each other. They are surrounded by a phenomenal supporting cast. Emily Browning and Taron Egerton are the two most prevalent of the supporting cast. Both of them are great as Hardy's love interests (one for each of the brothers). Taron Egerton had some of the funniest parts in the movie.
The film does balance its humor, drama, and action well, creating an interesting story, but there is not really anything else phenomenal about the story. The plot is actually quite convoluted with many subplots that can make it difficult to understand who is doing what at what time. The soundtrack was phenomenal, and there were a few cool things that the movie did with cinematography, so the film was overall aesthetically pleasing.
So overall, "Legend" was an enjoyable gangster film with phenomenal acting, however the film was a bit lacking in some of the other areas. If you are a gangster film fan or a Tom Hardy fan, definitely check this out on rental.
