"Mindhorn" was brought to my attention as one of the most popular films on Letterboxd of the past week. I was intrigued by it, and when I found out that it was a new Netflix original, I decided to check it out.
The film is ultimately a parody of 80's police action shows. It has been done before, therefore, the script is weighed down by a predictable plot and a lack of sufficient character development. The writing of the film is funny, and definitely enjoyable, but it is far from being great. The funniest part to me was Kenneth Branagh's cameo.
The execution of the film was definitely satisfying. The costuming and production design pay homage to the era which the film is referencing. The action scenes are well-choreographed, comedic, and exciting. The acting is good, too.
Overall, I enjoyed "Mindhorn" as a parody of an old genre of television, however, it is probably going to be relatively forgettable.
