I had not heard of "Oh, Hello on Broadway", but I like Nick Kroll in the films in which I have seen him. As such, I decided to check out the special on Netflix.
I thought that it was actually pretty funny. The show is separated into two main parts, one a comedic introduction leading into the play and one the play created by the characters. There is frequent breakage of the fourth wall and other self-aware elements (the one-sided phone call), and these were my favorite parts. There are also some really funny, satirical jokes about politics and history. That being said, there are some parts that fall a bit flat, and some that are extremely random, but still somehow funny. The filming of the special is good. I liked that it decided to focus more on the action occurring on-stage instead of cutting to audience reactions frequently (it happened some, but not as much as most).
Overall, I enjoyed "Oh, Hello on Broadway". It's certainly not for everyone, but if you like absurdist satire, check it out.
