I first heard about this film when it was playing the festival circuit, and I was immediately interested, since "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is a classic that I really love, and the story of the documentary was truly unique. I planned to rent it, however the prices to rent and buy were the same, so I bought it, which is good, as I plan to re-watch this film and share it with others.
The story of the film is truly captivating. It is about a group of film fans who began making a shot-for-shot remake of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" beginning at age ten and spanning seven years, filming all but one scene, which they reunited years later to film. The documentary has two parts that are interwoven: one chronicling the filming of the final scene in 2014, and one chronicling the development and rising popularity of the original adaptation told through interviews and archive footage. The smooth transition between these two parts kept me constantly enthralled in the film. As an aspiring filmmaker, the story was extremely interesting, and it is amazing to see how the devotion of this group of people led to such an amazing result. The documentary was also very well-made cinematically. The cinematography was really good, and the film made effective use of archive footage and interviews with the subjects to tell the story.
Overall, I really loved "Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made". It has an interesting and well-told story and is an absolute must for film lovers and fans of "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
