This was the next film of the classics series at the theater where I volunteer. I love it and have seen it many times, but I was unable to pay full attention, as I had a long day the day before and was still quite tired.
This film is a great film noir, but it isn't a traditional whodunit story, as the audience knows the culprit for many of the crimes throughout the film. Instead, the mystery of the film focuses on the talisman of the Maltese Falcon. The Falcon has many possible interpretations, and I think that is intended. Much of the film's action is dialogue, rather than chases, which is really great. It is interesting, and while I did find myself dozing off every once in a while, it wasn't because of boredom, it was because I was tired. The film also has some extremely great cinematography, which often serves to further develop the story.
So overall, "The Maltese Falcon" is a really great film noir. If you have never seen it, you definitely should.
