Film #13 of the Halloween 31
I decided that I wanted to watch a horror comedy tonight, so I decided to revisit "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil". I remembered watching it a long time ago, but I didn't remember much about it. I am definitely glad that I chose to revisit this film.
This is a horror comedy that plays with the genre trope of horror films. The way in which they make fun of them is actually quite funny. It shows the "hillbillies" as being intimidating only as a result of accidents. The college students still fit into clear archetypes, which are a bit annoying, but it is for comedic relief, so I understand. One of my favorite moments in the film is when some of the college students attempt to use logic, but are shot down by the leader. Other than the writing, there isn't anything extraordinary about the film, but there isn't anything horrible either. The cinematography has a few interesting shots, but nothing phenomenal. The acting is pretty good, but is mostly comedy-oriented.
So overall, "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil" is a funny movie with some well-written spins on genre tropes. The technical elements aren't the best, but the writing redeems the film.
