For a film class, I had to re-watch "Cabaret" for an exam. I have been wanting to re-watch this film for a while, and I think that it is a film that holds up very well, for the most part.
The writing of the film is very unique. There is a lot of political commentary in the film that is really interesting. At times, the film can feel just a bit episodic, however, it goes along with the commentary of the film. The romantic storyline of the film verges on melodrama, but never feels cheesy. And above all, I think that the characters are very well-developed. The musical numbers of the film are really well-done. The choreography is interesting and the cinematography is great. The songs are also well-written and move the plot along nicely, frequently serving as commentary themselves.
Overall, I think that "Cabaret" is a very good film. If you like musicals, I definitely recommend checking it out, as its blend of music, romance, and history is unique.
