Ever since I saw "The Nice Guys", I have had this film sitting at my house from Netflix DVD. I finally decided to watch it today and found that it had a lot of Black's same style.
The dark humor in this film is great. It had me laughing out loud multiple times. The film does, however, have a good amount of homophobic jokes, which often weren't very funny and seemed out-of-place. I loved the self-aware humor brought about due to Harry's narration. I liked how the film followed some of the cinematic tropes while making fun of them. The action in the film is also very well-choreographed and interesting.
The mystery plot of the film is very well-written. When I thought that I knew what was occurring, there was another twist and it threw me off. The film definitely wasn't as predictable as other modern mystery films, and that is a good thing.
Robert Downey, Jr. is one of my favorite actors, and he delivers in this film. His comedic personality really shows in this film, much like it does in "Iron Man", and it's great. The surprise to me was Val Kilmer, who was actually really good in this movie, bringing a lot of sarcastic, funny humor to the film.
So overall, I really liked "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". It was a funny and well-made neo-noir film. If you get a chance, you should check it out.

I look at films as if through old red and blue 3D glasses— one lens is as art, one lens is as entertainment.
