I had seen this movie before; it was actually one of the earlier horror movies that I had seen a while ago. I remember having middling feelings about it, and re-watching the film in a class, I found that I still have similar feelings towards the film now.
The cinematic elemens of the film are good for the most part. The cinematography and production design are interesting. Nicole Kidman's acting is really good, and the child actors are surprisingly decent. There were some things that I didn't like, however. For example, I didn't like the overuse of fades in the film. I also thought that the score was rather generic and built to nothing quite often.
The story of the film was also quite formulaic. I will say that the final reveal was not predictable, but the rest of the film was predictable to me. Otherwise, I thought that the mystery elements were well-written and the characters were well-developed.
So overall, "The Others" is a decent film. It's not something you should buy, but if you catch it on TV, maybe give it a shot.

I look at films as if through old red and blue 3D glasses— one lens is as art, one lens is as entertainment.
