Going into this film, I knew it had some great reviews and some people had recommended it to me, the trailers looked funny, and I loved the cast. I knew a little about the plot, but that wasn't really the selling point for me, I just wanted to see a good movie.
The plot was actually really interesting. It played out like a mystery film. With a few tweaks, I could have seen the film playing out in different ways: yet another sequel to "Police Academy", a prequel to "28 Days Later", another "Sherlock Holmes" movie, or more. That should really show you how well-rounded this script was. The script also tackled some tough societal issue like racism very well, while keeping it appropriate for young children.
I loved some of the jokes in the film. My favorite jokes had to be the "Godfather" references. Any movie fan will laugh out loud during this moment and be applauding in their mind during this scene. There are a lot of other funny jokes too. It is just constantly entertaining.
The cast truly is great. Again, I do love Jason Bateman, and he brought his level of charm and sarcasm to this role, and I loved it. Ginnifer Goodwin also did a good job, perfectly casted, showing her ferocity that comes through in her role on "Once Upon a Time". They are surrounded by a phenomenal supporting cast. Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, and Jenny Slate all do well in their roles, bringing their respective personality characteristics alive in the characters. Tommy Chong also has a very funny cameo in the film.
So, "Zootopia" is definitely a must-see for any family with children. It will definitely keep the kids entertained and it is smart enough too keep the adults enthralled too.
